- Patch or pill – what would you vote for?
The protection from unwanted pregnancy is a matter of minimum worry for sexually active women of modern time as there are several options available. All you need to do is to choose the one that fits your requirement and health condition. However, when it comes to make the final choice you may face some difficulties as all these methods may keep you 100% safe from the risk of unwanted pregnancy, but you don’t know which one will be suitable for you. Consulting with a registered physical in this case can be most effective. The two most effective birth control methods among the UK women are use of contraceptive patch and contraceptive pill.
The contraceptive pills, also referred as, combined oral contraceptives are mostly popular among young UK women. These pills contain two essential artificial sex hormones, oestrogen and progestogen that mimic action of the natural hormones in your physical system. Oestrogen, to be specific, makes your body feel that ovulation (or release of an egg from the ovary) has already occurred. Progestogen, on the other hand, increases the mucus density at the neck of the ovary and also helps to the thinning of womb lining so that it becomes impossible for a sperm to fertilize an egg.
A contraceptive patch functions almost in the same way as the combined oral contraceptives though the administration and composition of it are different. The Evra patch is one of the most trusted contraceptive techniques among married women in the UK, especially for those who already have conceived. The greatest advantage of this technique is, unlike oral contraceptives, you don’t need to remember taking it every day, around the same time. An Evra patch is a small, thin, plastic patch that can be attached to your skin. A user needs to put it on from the very first day of her menstrual cycle and change it after every 7 days. It contains artificial estradiol (an estrogen) and norelgestromin (a progestin) that stops you from falling pregnant.
